08/02/2010 - Wanted - Examples of good curriculum design practice
Staff at Lancaster University’s Departments of Applied Social Science and Educational Research are embarking on a project, funded by the Higher Education Academy, to gather and disseminate information about inclusive curriculum design practice.
Researchers are looking for examples of good, inclusive curricular design in higher education that account for the six key areas of equality legislation: gender, race, disability, age, sexuality, and religion/faith, as well as other social, cultural, experiential and circumstantial factors that may lead to exclusion. Examples of inclusivity that permeate the curriculum, including syllabus content and reading lists that highlight equality issues; assessment arrangements or teaching approaches would also be welcomed. Your own experience of CPD courses, training and support that you may provide to academic staff to help them to embed inclusivity into their curriculum and pedagogies could also be relevant.
If you have details of effective, inclusive curriculum design in your subject area or have come across institutional or discipline based barriers to inclusion, please send brief details using the following link: www.lancs.ac.uk/fass/projects/reap/hea/dicheForm.php - a member of the Designing Inclusive Curriculum in Higher Education (DICHE) team will then contact you, or for more information, go to: http://www.lancs.ac.uk/fass/projects/reap/hea/diche.html.
