19/08/2009 - Call to involve disabled people in HEFCE policy making.
HEFCE invites people with disabilities and those in higher education who support them to become involved in HEFCE policy making over the next 12 months.
Anyone wishing to do so is invited to express their interest by 25
September 2009. This would be a one-year commitment requiring little to
no travel.
The invitation continues HEFCE’s strategy to involve disabled people
launched in summer 2008. Those recruited for 2009-10 will continue to
comprise a group of contacts with whom HEFCE will consult when
developing and implementing policies. They will also help to build on
the input received over the last year. Membership is open to new
volunteers and existing members of the group.
In 2008-09, HEFCE enjoyed the support of 140 volunteers who became
involved in a range of policy-related activities, from feedback on
consultations, to assessing the impact of policy.
Continued involvement of this kind helps the Council make the
perspective of disabled people central to the policy making process,
and influence changes in the area of disability equality for the HE
sector as a whole.
