26/06/2009 - HEAT Project holder among 2009 NTFS Awards
JISC TechDis are delighted to confirm that one of the HEAT1 project holders, Karen Gresty from the University of Plymouth, is among this year’s NTFS winners.
One of this year's 50 National Teaching Fellowship Awards has been given to Dr Karen Gresty, Senior Lecturer in Biological Aspects of Health at the University of Plymouth. Karen undertook a research project for JISC TechDis under the HEAT scheme, and we are delighted that she has gone on to be awarded a National Teaching Fellowship.
Karen's HEAT project undertaken for JISC TechDis examined the use of portable digital recorders to enhance learning. In it, she concluded "We anticipate that it would be very simple for academic staff in other institutions (and disciplines) to perform a similar intervention study, if they had the electronic means to digitally record and then to disseminate the audio files e.g. Using Blackboard. The students were amenable to using the learning technology and did not claim that they needed extra support to do so. The inclusion benefits to the students who accessed the files were considerable, in terms of consolidating a bioscience knowledge base and maximising learning time. This is particularly helpful to health students who have to undertake a lot of travelling as part of their studies but would also apply to students in other disciplines who need to commute. There was very little extra work involved from a tutor perspective"
