06/04/2009 - Bristol Project Praised For Improving Access To Digital Technologies

Digital Inclusion Minister, Wayne David, spoke on the 4th April of the importance of giving everyone, regardless of their circumstances, the opportunity to benefit from digital technologies.

Speaking at the South Bristol Digital Neighbourhoods Programme event being held at the Knowle West Media Centre, Mr David called on all sectors to work together to create an inclusive digital society.

Mr David said: “Digital inclusion is a key objective of this Government; to make sure that everyone, regardless of their circumstances has the opportunity to benefit from digital technologies. Digital technologies can be used to help get people back into work, improve education and skills, help people live fuller lives, as well as reducing costs for businesses, government, the voluntary sector and individuals alike.

“We want to see all sectors working together to ensure that those who are less familiar with digital technology and those who don’t have the resources to access it are not left behind.

“By implementing projects such as the South Bristol Digital Neighbourhoods, that harness the creativity and experience of the local community and by working together across all sectors, we can develop a truly inclusive digital economy and make a real difference.”
