JISC TechDis Privacy Statement

JISC TechDis recognises the importance of protecting the privacy of anyone who visits or uses the JISC TechDis website. This Privacy Statement sets out the policy adopted by JISC TechDis towards visitors of the JISC TechDis website or users of JISC TechDis resources. Although the JISC TechDis website is hosted by a third party, no personal identifying information will be collected during your visit to the JISC TechDis website.

General Undertaking

When visiting the JISC TechDis website or contacting the JISC TechDis helpdesk, JISC TechDis will:

1.    respect your privacy and confidentiality,
2.    only record your personal details in the manner and for the purposes set out in this Privacy Statement;
3.    keep your personal details secure from unauthorised access, use or disclosure; and
4.    not sell, rent, trade or otherwise knowingly share or provide your personal information to any third party except insofar as legally obliged to do so.
5.    only use your information in accordance with the terms of the Data Protection Act 1998.

Information Collected

1. Indirect collection:
The JISC TechDis web server automatically collects standard information such as browser type, operating system, access times, etc.
The JISC TechDis website uses cookies to customise web page content. Cookies are small electronic files which a website can transfer to a user’s hard drive to identify a user and personalise their use of that website. In the case of the JISC TechDis website, this is to enable users to select there own visual preferences.

Any information that is collected indirectly is used by JISC TechDis only to monitor the volume, type and pattern of traffic towards, and usage of, the JISC TechDis website and to develop the design and layout of the website.

2. Direct collection:
JISC TechDis collects limited personal information from incoming helpdesk enquiries. This is in the form of the users email address, but can also include the users name, institution, address and telephone number should this information be contained within the users email signature. This information is provided voluntarily by a user when requesting any information from the JISC TechDis helpdesk. JISC TechDis retains such information in a service desk system.
 
Where you have provided your email address, the JISC TechDis helpdesk will send an automated response from the service desk system, issuing you a ticket number and confirmation that we have received your enquiry.

Privacy Statement Updates
JISC TechDis reserves the right to periodically update or modify this privacy policy. Any changes to this Privacy Statement will be posted on the JISC TechDis website so that users are always aware of the purposes of us collecting information via the helpdesk and reasons for the information being collected. JISC TechDis always encourages users who may have specific concerns about the gathering or use of any such information to view this Privacy Statement regularly.

Any user may request that the information stored by JISC TechDis in the service desk system be removed by posting a written request to the above postal address. Any information that is inaccurate JISC TechDis can amend once being notified in written format.
